Message & Announcement from Dr. Ken Magdaleno

As you may know, I began CLEAR in 2011 as a social justice organization with leadership, equity and research as the focus areas of our efforts. Our efforts over the years have included the current CLEAR AI Initiative and other numerous endeavors addressing issues of institutional injustice and equitydeveloping leaders of color, and our indexed, peer-reviewed Journal of Leadership, Equity, and Research (JLER). I am very proud of the efforts of our almost always volunteer group of CLEAR leadership.

However, the time has come where I have chosen to step aside as CLEAR CEO and become Founder Emeritus for the Center for Leadership, Equity, and Research. In order to provide a glance into the steps our CLEAR Board took to make this happen, I have included below a written record of the board minutes of this action item during the board meeting. Thank you for your support of CLEAR over the years and I hope you continue to support us. As you will note below, as Founder Emeritus I have a permanent place on the board and will provide a historical context to our future.

Stay strong in social justice and equity,

Ken

“I move that for recognition for his outstanding contributions in founding, leading and operating the Center for Leadership, Equity and Research (CLEAR) and its mission, we name Dr. Ken Magdaleno a Founder Emeritus with a permanent board seat effective immediately. In concert with this motion, the CLEAR Board shall begin a six-month transition period, ending Mach 1, 2025 where we will begin a search for a permanent CEO to take over the operational and financial responsibilities of the organization.”

The motion was seconded by Dr. Mahmoud Suleiman, the floor was opened for discussion and clarifications. During discussion, Dr. Magdaleno clarified that he is continuing as an active board member, mentor, and will help guide the organization in strategy and mission. Dr. Suleiman congratulated and thanked Dr. Magdaleno for his leadership and mentoring efforts over the years in establishing CLEAR. Board member Amy Callahan clarified that the CEO role will be a volunteer position (at this time).

The question was then called to vote and passed 4-0 in the affirmative by unanimous consensus.
